Providing comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations.
"What are reasons for someone to have a psychological evaluation?"
Psychological evaluations may provide information about a person that may be more difficult to find out through traditional psychotherapy such as: coping skills, clarifying diagnoses, adaptive functioning (daily living skills), problems with thinking clearly, psychosis, cognitive ability, AD/HD diagnosis, learning difficulties and causes, etc. There are numerous reasons why someone may be referred for testing or choose to have an evaluation. These are only some of the reasons.
"What are some of the tests that are administered?"
Why a person is referred for psychological testing will determine what tests are administered. Some tests commonly used in this practice for evaluations include:
- Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV)
- Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fifth Edition (WISC-V)
- Woodcock Johnson IV Tests of Achievement (WJ-IV)
- Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - 2 and Adolescent (MMPI-2 and MMPI-A)
- Conners 3rd Edition
- Thematic Apperception Test, Children's Apperception Test
- Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Functioning - 2nd Edition (BRIEF-2)
- Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales - 3rd Edition
- Other objective and projective measures
"What else do I need to know about testing?"
Psychological/psychoeducational testing may or may not be covered by your insurance. Testing to determine if someone has a specific learning disability is typically not covered by insurance. The reason for testing will determine this. This practice will test individuals age 6 and up, including adults. Testing is normally scheduled over several sessions due to the amount of time it may take. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding psychological testing.
