Hello and welcome to my webpage! I am so glad you are taking a step to learn more about therapy, how it can help, and what therapy is like with me.
Therapy with me
Going to therapy for the first time, or even the fifth time, can be a scary, anxiety producing experience when you do not know what to expect. My goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible by providing an inviting environment, a safe place where you will not experience any judgment, will be treated with respect, and know that you are being taken seriously. I was taught at an early age to treat others how I would want to be treated and make sure that I live by this in my practice.
I am a licensed psychological associate and have worked in Eastern North Carolina in private practice since 2006. Working with individuals to overcome obstacles in their lives, take steps towards their goals, improve their day to day life, and decrease things that may be getting in their way is my passion. I work with individuals from age 6 and up and specialize in adolescents/young adults. This can be a difficult time in a person's life with the numerous transitions that are occurring, and my goal is to help these individuals not only get through this time period, but also find joy in their life, learn life-long skills, and reach their fullest potential. I have had extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Training, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and other modalities used in treatment. After getting to know the person I am working with, we will choose the best approach for that person.
I have had the pleasure of working in a number of different environments with a wide variety of individuals including private practices, public mental health agencies, and group homes where I have worked as a therapist, supervisor, Clinical Director, and consultant. However, I have found that my passion has been and continues to be working with individuals one on one or in small groups, which is why I have returned again and again to private practice.
My goal is to show you that therapy can work for you. Not all therapists are the same and not all therapists use the same techniques. I consider myself and have been told by individuals I work with that I am laid back, attentive, offer feedback when appropriate, teach relevant and useful skills that I myself can attest to using and being beneficial, and try to use humor when possible to help make people comfortable.
